A better education for every child.

But the job is not done yet. We need to make sure this record investment delivers real improvements for students, teachers, and support staff.

Today we’re releasing Investing in Australia’s Future (2025) - a new report outlining the reforms and investments needed to make sure every child in every public school can thrive.

READ THE REPORT HERE.

Grounded in evidence from thousands of teachers, principals, and education support staff, the report provides a roadmap for how governments can build a stronger, fairer, and better education system.

Here are some highlights:

Better support

  • Establish a permanent small group or one-on-one tutoring program in every public school.
  • Improve systemic support for teachers in educating students with complex needs.
  • Increase the number of trained education support staff in the classroom.

Giving teachers time

  • Increase the numbers of administration and support staff in schools to reduce teacher and principal workloads.
  • Provide an additional two hours a week for teachers to plan lessons and collaborate with their colleagues.

Improving wellbeing

  • Expand the number of qualified school counsellors to a minimum ratio of 1:500 students in primary schools and 1:250 students in secondary schools.
  • Boost school wellbeing teams with qualified social workers, nurses and Aboriginal health workers and Torres Strait Islander health workers.
  • Provide greater system-wide support for the implementation of proven early intervention and wellbeing programs.
